This last week my niece, Aly, suffered a large hemorrhagic stroke, and was taken first by ambulance to the nearest hospital, then taken by flight to the nearest stroke certified center an hour from her home. She is currently in the Neuro ICU, and has lost function to the left side of her body. She is just 36 years old. Once she is stable enough, she will transition to an inpatient rehab facility to start her long road of recovery, then return home. Aly will need to put all of her strength and focus into her rehab and recovery, and will not be able to work. Aly and my nephew, Tyler, have 2 girls at home to care for, and will be relying solely on Tyler's income. Paying medical bills, maintaining their home and care for their girls should not be a stress and burden at a time when low stress is of utmost importance for healing and recovery.
