Support Alvaro Maya's Memorial and Funeral

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Eduardo's Dad, Alvaro Maya. Alvaro passed early this morning, surrounded by his loving family after an unexpected and catastrophic complication following what should have been a routine mitral valve replacement.

Alvaro went in for his valve replacement this past Monday, November 18th and seemed to have done exceptionally well. Doctors were impressed with his progress and even thought he may make it home earlier than expected. Sadly, on the following evening, Alvaro unexpectedly collapsed in front of family and hospital staff.

The staff at Sequoia Hospital moved quickly and made a valiant effort in attempts to revive him. After regaining a pulse, Alvaro was rushed back to the operating room to find the cause. It was then discovered that his left ventricle had spontaneously ruptured. Although they were able to patch the rupture, the hour long period of attempts at resuscitation caused irreversible damage to his organs, and he never woke up.

The last 2 days there had been unexpected strides that led to moments of hope. His family never left his side, taking turns at his bedside making sure he knew we were there, and praying he would improve. Praying for a miracle. Unfortunately, the lack of oxygen had taken it's toll and he passed while on life support at 7:30 this morning.

Alvaro was and is profoundly loved. For those that knew him knew he was a kind man of great faith, who deeply loved his family and his wife of almost 60 years. With his unexpected passing, this has caused profound grief, but also a great financial expense the family was not prepared for. As a devout Catholic, Alvaro's wishes were to be buried in Half Moon Bay, where his family resides and to have a traditional Catholic funeral. For these wishes to be fulfilled, the upfront cost seems astronomical.

The Maya's have always been a private and humble family that would give the shirts off their back to help someone in need. It is not in their nature to ask for help, which is why I feel it necessary to reach out to our loved ones on their behalf. If you have the ability, we would appreciate any donation towards giving Alvaro the memorial he deserves. And even if you are not able, I know they would greatly appreciate your prayers for comfort at this time. If there are any leftover funds, they would be put towards any medical bills that have incurred during this journey.

Service information will be updated here as soon as these plans are finalized. We appreciate everyone for their love and support.

With love,

Casey Maya
