Thanks to all who are reading this!
My name is Jen Simmons and I'm creating a Go Fund Me for my dear friend, Alvaro Camacho. Many in Nosara remember him as he was the Director of the Nosara Recycle Center for a time and the seller of some of Nosara's first Ginger Beer (yum!). Then he worked with me as a Local Coordinator for the volunteer youth groups of GLA that came through Nosara in 2015/2016.
During that time, we all saw that Alvaro struggled - in balance, strength, endurance, and physical capacity. At the time, Alvaro's challenges were not yet diagnosed. But he gave his all, as best he could, every day. He was an exception Local Coordinator, leader, rolemodel, co-worker, and friend. The students really looked up to him and connected with him deeply. We all loved Alvaro!
Years have passed, and Alvaro's condition has not improved, and in fact, has deteriorated. Alvaro is 41 years old now, and living in Guatemala City. He's now been through several hospitalizations and tests and MRIs performed and finally, after 10 years of testing, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. For many years he had no treatment until the doctors finally diagnosed it correctly, but by that time, the symptoms had progressed severely. He is now in a wheelchair and can barely walk - just a few steps. It has begun to affect his arms and hands (feeling numbness), he feels very low energy and has “brain fog” most of the time. Worst yet, he has a heat intolerance; basically many symptoms that have made his life very difficult. He cannot work, and therefore has no income. He currently lives with his elderly parents who have taken him in.
The good news is that Alvaro strongly believes that with the right nutrition, physical therapy, supplements and other habit changes, he can make the symptoms stop and even reverse some or all of the damage. He will follow the Wahls Protocol (Watch this Ted Talk to learn all about it!) in order to have a good guidance and give his body the best environment to regenerate and stop the disease progression. Everything has cost though and that is why he needs our help as Alvaro, nor his family, have the means to do so.
His dream is to be able to regain energy to work and be independent again, and of course keep working in helping other people the way he used to. He also wants to be a living testimony that chronic diseases can be looked at differently and give hope to people that may be going through similar situations.
My initial goal is to reach $12,000. This will support Alvaro for an entire year, helping him to follow the Wahl Protocol and get him all the therapy and treatment he needs.
Please consider helping and reach out to me on Whatsapp if you have any questions. [phone redacted]-9191
Also, Alvaro is on Facebook so you can ask any questions to him there. (Bo Ro is his name on FB)
With deep gratitude,
