This is Althea, a 70+ single woman that is sharp as a tack. She is a well of music, history and movie information. She has always believed in clean living. In spite of her homeless status she has maintained her vegetarian diet. She rides a wobbly bicycle thru the streets on the north side of Chicago. Althea (legal name Judy Normoyle) lost her place to stay almost a year ago when the man she was helping out died.
She has had a couple recent health setbacks that include vision loss. She had always made her money selling t-shirts and other wares at Grateful Dead and other music venues (she was at the original and the 1999 Woodstock).
Unfortunately Chicago shelters are full and frequent calls to 311 are not helpful. She is starting to receive case management services from Sarah’s Circle to help her apply for benefits. This may take up to a year.
I am asking for funds to get one spunky, kind, elderly woman off the streets of Chicago for about a year until she can get the help she needs. Are you in with me?
