Dear Friends and Community,
I am starting this page on behalf of my mother's small business in Altadena. Our beloved community of Altadena has been devastated by the recent wildfires, and Southern Roots, a cornerstone of our neighborhood, has been deeply impacted. For the past seven years, Southern Roots, a small, independently-owned business founded by Tillie, has been more than just a gift and floral shop. It has been a place of comfort, connection, creativity, and support—a space where people come together in both celebration and grief. Tillie has poured her heart and soul into creating a welcoming environment for all and supporting the community where she has raised her 2 children in for the past 30 years.
Tragically, although the building itself remains standing on Altadena Drive and Washington, the contents of the store have been destroyed by smoke, soot, and ash. Everything inside is a loss, as the shop sits in the evacuation zone with no power. While we are uncertain about the future of Southern Roots, this devastation not only impacts Tillie's business, but also her dedicated employees—many of whom are members of our community. Additionally, many customers of Southern Roots have lost their homes entirely.
We are reaching out to ask for your support to help rebuild the Southern Roots shop and studio, to assist Tillie’s employees in getting back on their feet, and to try to aid the numerous faithful Southern Roots customers whom have lost everything to the fires destroying our community. While our hearts are heavy and are in complete disbelief, our community's strength is unshakable.
Your contribution will help us rise from the ashes and rebuild a stronger, more resilient community.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
#AltadenaStrong
