Support Alston Family's Cancer Battle
Donation protected
The Alston family are my wonderful neighbors and friends. Almost two years ago, they found out that Larina (mom) had cancer. This year, she had her second major surgery, losing 2/3rds of her liver along with the last known tumor.
One week from being released from the hospital, Charles (dad) and Larina found themselves sitting in a different hospital, talking with different doctors. They find out that Charles is a Super Mutant (powers still unknown) and that Charles has a blood cancer known as “Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)”. Without treatment, due to his Super Mutant status, he has about a year to live. With treatment, again due to his Super Mutant status he has a 25% chance of survival. “So you’re saying there’s a chance!” Charles’ mantra, from Dumb and Dumber.
Charles has had his first round of chemo, multiple blood and platelet transfusions, and there is more to come. The latest update is he’s been admitted to the hospital (5/14). His cancer didn’t react well to the first round of chemo. In fact, it got worse, reducing his 25% chance of survival to a 5% chance.
The doctors are going to try a different round of chemo. He will be in the hospital for at least a week. If insurance approves the at home chemo he can come home for the second week.
After two weeks, they will do another biopsy. Depending on how the cancer reacts will determine if they go for a more aggressive chemo or can start the stem cell transplant. At this point, they are saying treatment is more to extend his life rather than cure the cancer. They are holding onto hope for a miracle.
This GoFundMe is to help out with the medical expenses.
