Support Al's Journey to Lung Transplant
Donation protected
Below is the journey Al has been on. During this time the only thing they have ask for is prayer. They have made sacrifices to make this happen the best they can however they are required to fundraise and show they have raised money to be on the list. Exceeding the goal would be wonderful because this is a long journey. Please give if you can, if you can’t please pray!
Al was very sick and was hospitalized September 10 through the 19th 2023. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and Covid. He was sent home on 3 liters of oxygen, 24/7. Within six weeks he had a check up with a pulmonologist and was diagnosed with idiopathic fibrosis. Staying on oxygen he then had a follow up appointment on December 18, 2023 where he was told his lung function was 30% and he needed a double lung transplant. At that time he was referred to Emory. Being a Veteran he had to be seen by the VA doctors first. His pulmonologist there diagnosed him with interstitial lung disease caused by RA, which is autoimmune. On March 18, 2024 he was hospitalized and treated for his RA with 1000mg of steroids a day. He was then sent home on steroids and has been on them since. He is now on 5-6 liters of oxygen setting and walking he is on 10-15 liters. He also had to have chemotherapy infusions. April 1 was his first infusion. Since then he has had two more. The week of May 6-10 Al had a week long series of test to be able to qualify to be put on the transplant list. He has had several test weekly prior to all of this.
There are several requirements to be on the transplant list. Fundraising is one of them.
During the transplant housing, parking, and food are taken into consideration. Emory told us that post transplant we need to plan to stay nearby for 6-12 months. During that time Al will have to do physical therapy 4 days a week and testing. Post transplant will include anti-rejection medication, anti-infection medication, and physical therapy, the rest of his life.
There will be an account set up at United Community Bank and also a Venmo account if anyone feels led to donate. Donations can also be dropped if at Hair With Flair Salon.
Please continue to pray for Al. We know that our Lord will never leave or forsake us. One of Pam and Al’s favorite songs is Great Are You Lord. It states in the song
IT’S YOUR BREATH IN OUR LUNGS
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
"The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the
Almighty gives me life." Job 33:4
We thank and appreciate each and everyone of you. God Bless.
