We are reaching out to support one of our own during an incredibly difficult time.

Our coworker and friend, Almaz, has been out of work for nearly two months after her son suddenly became critically ill. With no prior medical history, he developed unexplained cardiac issues that were later identified as viral cardiomyopathy. What began as a shocking and unexpected diagnosis quickly escalated. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins main campus and spent time in the ICU, where multiple medication adjustments were attempted. Despite every effort, he could not be stabilized enough to return home. The decision was made to place him on the heart transplant list.

We have now received the incredible news that he was given a heart, and the transplant surgery went well. While this is a huge step forward, his recovery will be long and demanding. Almaz will need to remain by his side as his primary caregiver throughout this journey. She has dedicated nearly 30 years to Suburban Hospital, and one of the things that makes this place special is that we are more than coworkers. We are a community. We show up for each other.
