Dear Friends and Family,
I’m reaching out to share a big part of my life that has severely impacted me since 2021. That year, I had a traumatic fall and I was diagnosed with Chiari 1 malformation in the hospital. Chiari Malformation is a rare brain condition where the lower part of the brain extends into the spinal canal, leading to a range of debilitating symptoms. After my head injury, my symptoms escalated, and I have faced daily battles with chronic pain, migraines, dizziness, nausea, brain fog, shooting pains in my limbs, balance issues, and fatigue amongst many others since.
Living with Chiari has reshaped my reality, forcing me to relinquish many aspects of my former life. I’m unable to navigate life the way I used to, due to my daily symptoms and pain. It has taught me a deeper value of resilience and life though. Despite trying various holistic approaches and lifestyle changes, my symptoms remain unrelenting. I am now scheduled for cerebellar decompression surgery on October 21, and while it offers hope for relief, I’m anxious about my recovery post-surgery. I understand that the recovery process may take months and varies for each individual.
The financial burden of countless medical appointments, treatments, and frequent ER visits has become overwhelming, leaving me with over $10,000 in medical bills, not including my upcoming surgery.
This journey has been daunting, especially in a landscape where awareness and research on Chiari remain limited.
I plan to keep an update on my journey.
Your support—whether through raising awareness or financial contributions—would mean a lot to me during this time. Thank you for listening and considering my journey.
Thank you for standing by me and supporting me as I navigate this path toward healing and reclaiming a sense of normalcy in my life.
With all my love,
Ally Ross
