Support Ally's Birthday Wish for Remy
Donation protected
Hi!
Writing & posting this feels out of our comfort zone but we know we have a strong community around us who are happy to help support us.
If you know me then you know Remy.
He is my sidekick and partner. I rescued him shortly after my mom passed and he has been my companion ever since. This past week has been nothing short of an unexpected awful chain of events. On Sunday the 2nd, he started showing symptoms of bad allergies like excessive sneezing, loss of appetite which all quickly progressed and turned into a high fever, complete loss of ability to eat or drink water, lethargy and nasal discharge. We rushed him to the ER in Bourne where they admitted him into the ICU and treated him until Wednesday, running every test under the sun. On Wednesday, they discharged him to our care with the hope he would recover at home better with medicine & rest. Unfortunately, by the next day, he was still progressing downhill and we again rushed him back off the ER where they had no answers or hope to give and were starting to talk with us about quality of life.
We could not accept that yet not until every rock had been turned and we had tried everything.
They recommended us to Tufts Veterinary where we went immediately. The doctors there admitted Rem into the ICU and he went again under tests where he finally got a diagnosis and some hope. The doctors diagnosed him with an autoimmune disease and started treating him immediately with hope for a miracle that he will recover fully & be able to return home soon. They took biopsies of his skin ulcers and are waiting on the results this week to have better idea of what we are fighting.
Today being my birthday the call I got was going to be either very sad news or the news we had been praying for. The doctor called and said he had turned a corner. His liver & kidneys were starting to function and his skin & swelling was subsiding. His doctors & our hope is that he is on the other side of this & fighting like hell to get better & come home.
This long, wild, and unexpected road has of course led us to having huge mountain of medical bills we did not plan for.
So this year for my birthday in lieu of anything else I’m asking friends and family to gift just $10, $15, $30 or whatever is comfortable to help us or even a share of our story or say a prayer.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Love, Ally, Chris, and Remy
So Remy update!
He’s a fighter!
They gave him a human IVIG today via an IV to try and kick his system into over drive to combat his Erythema Multiforme (which is what they believe he is but will not be 100% sure until biopsies results come in hopefully tomorrow ). This treatment is risky due to the fact there are not many studies done & rarity of use due to cost. We were very blessed with one free dose that someone had donated to the hospital as one dose usually costs around $2000. The doctors said this will be a make or break moment for us. He is hoping this hail marry will be just what we need to fight this. However, there are high risks with anything that has not been heavily tested but we choosing to only hope & expect the best. We will know in only a day or 2 whether this treatment has helped him.
They also unfortunately had to put in a feeding tube today as he is still unable to eat & his body needs the proteins to get better. However unlike with humans a food tube in a dog is very different & less invasive. He will still be able to walk & move about freely.
We are going to go visit him tomorrow at the hospital & give him lots of love from all of you.
Hoping for an even better update tomorrow once this medicine has time to work its magic.
Again, thank you so much to everyone who has helped us, it really means a whole lot and we appreciate you all in giving us a chance to give Remy his best shot at recovering.
Last update
Unfortunately we got his biopsy results back & they were not what we or the doctor had hoped & prayed for. The visit today is now our last visit with him as he will cross over the rainbow bridge with us there. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has said a prayer & kept him in your thoughts. He is more than a dog to me. He has been my companion, best friend, & shadow for over 8 years. I don’t remember what a day looks like without him or a night sleep without him in my bed. To say my heart is broken is an understatement.
Thank you to everyone that has donated to help ease this financial burden we find ourselves in especially with having to mourn the loss of him not coming home. I’m forever grateful for this community.
