Allison has been my best friend since high school, and this past year has been the hardest of her life. In December 2024, Allison was diagnosed with Adrenal Cancer—a rare and aggressive disease. She faced her first surgery that same month, followed by weeks of radiation in March and April. Despite these treatments, doctors found something in the surgery bed, and a CT scan in August revealed the cancer had spread to her kidney, diaphragm, and nodules in her abdomen. Allison bravely underwent a second surgery in September 2025 and is now starting six months of chemotherapy, hoping it will help slow the disease.

The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming. Allison has spent all her savings over the past year to pay for medical needs, and now she’s struggling to keep up with insurance, loan deductibles, and maxed-out credit cards. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, she's had insurance these past two years. With the subsidies due to expire, she’s worried about how she’ll continue to afford the care she needs, and the uncertainty is weighing heavily on her.
