Support Allen's Recovery and Family Stability

On 10/12 Allen had a fall while no one was home. The next day he laid around for most of the day, with his work schedule it wasn’t unusual for him to be resting up. We became concerned in the late afternoon because he hadn’t eaten all day and that was unusual for Al. We tried talking to him and getting him to interact with us, he was lethargic and non responsive to our commands. We loaded him up in the car and Debra got him to the ER, thank goodness! The Drs informed us he had two bleeds, one on the outside of his brain and one in the meat of his brain. He also had seriously low potassium levels, blood pressure and a couple more non life threatening issues. They kept him in ICU for awhile while they worked on his potassium levels and getting him stable. Because of the meds they had to give him to level out his potassium, he went into kidney failure. He’s been moved now to a permanent floor at the hospital and is still non responsive and bed ridden. They’ve gotten the other conditions under control, but the brain is tricky and everyone is different so it’s a waiting game for him to wake up. As many know Allen has been with the rail road for over 20 years now. Debra hasn’t worked for many many years. She is currently buried deep in paperwork trying to figure out her next step. It’s going to be some time (months, possibly a year or more) before any of Allen’s benefits are available to sustain their home and their lives. There is no money coming in currently. The house they live in was Allen’s childhood home, his grandparents house. It would be utterly devastating to lose it, for all of us. It is also their kids childhood home, and my children’s as well. So much love and so many memories. Not to mention all of the everyday costs and all of the other bills that are still coming in. I’m starting this go fund me to take some of the stress and pressure off of Debra until we can figure out what path to take from here. I appreciate the time it took to read our story, if you are unable to donate, please share and throw out a prayer for Al. We won’t be complete until he’s home and I very much want him to have a home to come home to.
