Many of you know our grandma, Babushka Alla, and for those that don't, here is a little summary of who she is. At 85 years of age, her heart is for those most often overlooked, forgotten, and mistreated. She currently supports 16 disabled individuals in Eastern Europe. This number has fluctuated over the years as some have passed away, and more have been added. What used to be yearly trips to visit and spend time with them came to a halt when she began having health problems herself, followed by COVID, and now the war. But none of that stopped her. She has been selflessly serving them and meeting their needs over the last 25 years.
So recently, we sat down and talked with her about what she wants most for her birthday. Here is how that conversation went.
"Babushka, what would you like for your birthday?"
She chuckled and said, "I have everything I could possibly need. What more could I want for myself? All I want is to be able to take care of these families. That is what is most important."
She then proceeded to tell us many heartbreaking stories of the fates of these individuals and what they had gone through in their lives: trauma, abuse, neglect, injustice.
"And how am I supposed to leave them? How am I supposed to just stop doing what I'm doing? I can't," she says.
If you could only see the work that she puts into baking goods to then travel to different churches in the area to sell. All of that money goes to these disabled individuals. She sends over incontinence supplies, clothing, non-perishable food, and pays for in-home care, which is about $500 for 4 months.
Our goal with this GoFundMe is to help ease that burden by surprising her next weekend with whatever amount we collect for her birthday celebration. Any amount will help further her ministry. Don't let the opportunity of sowing into a much-needed cause pass you by. Let's be the hands and feet of Jesus!
