Hi everyone,

My siblings and I are reaching out to ask for your support for someone incredibly special to us, our dad, Allan, who has recently been diagnosed with high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). He’s only 51 years old and has spent his life working hard, supporting his family, and quietly helping others in the background — much like the work he does every day as a custodian at LaSalle High School.

High risk MDS is a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow’s ability to make healthy blood cells. For dad, it means constant fatigue, frequent hospital visits, transfusions, and a long road of treatments ahead. His doctor said the best chance at survival is a bone marrow transplant, which comes with high risks, an intense recovery, and unfortunately, massive costs that go far beyond what insurance can cover. Only few hospitals around the surrounding states do this, those include Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas, and Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans Louisiana, meaning there will also be extensive travel.

Our dad is the kind of man who never complains. He hates asking for help when he needs it most. He stands strong in his faithfulness which is crucial for this diagnosis. When our dad first started getting the cancer workup we were all stressed and scared. Something that made a weight lift off of our shoulders was the one sentence he said and continues to say, “I’ve put it in God’s hands, I’m not picking it back up.” So that is what we are continuing to do, give it to God and let his miracle working hands do the rest. Our dad has always been the kind of person to help others before he helps himself.

Now, he needs us. The financial burden of his illness is more than our family can handle alone. We’re raising funds to help cover:

Treatments, transfusions, and medications

Hospital stays and potential transplant expenses

Travel to and from specialist appointments

Lost income due to hospital stays
