Alivia’s Road to Recovery
I am reaching out to request all the love and support we can give and share to Alivia – a kind, smart, caring light that brightens every room she walks into, with a contagious laugh, and infectious smile. She bounces into every room singing and dancing lifting us all up and it’s our turn to help lift her and her mom up as Alivia undergoes a major life altering reconstructive surgery this summer.
Gabrielle (mom) and Alivia know this journey all too well as Alivia in 2015 previously braved a 16-hr. reconstructive surgery when she was just 5 yrs old and battled through her recovery like such a champ for 13 weeks at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland with 8+ months of multi-week visits for physical therapy once they had returned home.
Alivia’s surgery this spring will entail inpatient recovery with the remaining recovering and attending rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins Hospital, with a scheduled OR time of 1200 minutes. Alivia has persevered and has been preparing for this surgery for the last 9 years with a concerted effort by herself, Gabrielle, and the amazing team at Hopkins. With Alivia’s dedication and support from her mom, especially over the last 12 months in preparation and approval from medical staff, she is now ready for this next step in her medical journey.
On her road to recovery so many “firsts” for Alivia will be missed or on hold.
She will miss turning 15, celebrating with her friends, her first summer job, her
national dance championship with her competitive team, drivers ed, nights hanging with friends, her volleyball and cheer camps over the summer, and most of all Alivia will immensely miss her dogs Toby and Auggie.
It’s one thing struggling while having the support of your village close to you to lean on, but Alivia and Gabrielle will yet again journey to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, far from home but a home to them nonetheless, this spring for another major reconstructive surgery. Johns Hopkins is one of the best hospitals in the world with the expertise to treat Alivia’s extremely rare medical needs but is still across the country away from their friends and family.
With how rare Alivia’s medical needs are, there are so many costs associated with her surgery and aftercare. The amount of stress and anxiety, providing and caring for Alivia of course would weigh on any parent, and my goal is not only to let Alivia know we are there to support her but we are there for Gabrielle as well. Without being there physically to help and support them my hopes are we can all step up and help them anyway we can in their time of need.
Thank you for all your love, prayers, and support for these amazing women!
Alivia you were born to be somebody great, and it’s been an honor watching and being a part of your journey. The best is yet to come, and we look forward to your triumphant return home!
