Support Alison's Journey to Recovery After Surgery

Hi everyone!

I broke both of my ankles on unsafe stairs (at an airbnb in Oakland) on May 10th, the day before Mother's Day. I was in Oakland to see my older sister Kara, my niece, and my mom. They are in Oakland because we were trying to get Kara into a clinical trial for terminal colon cancer. We couldn't do that, so Kara is in Oakland on hospice.

I had surgery on my right ankle May 12th. All three bones in my ankle were broken with a trimalleolar fracture. My left ankle has an avulsion fracture from a severe sprain (like a football/soccer injury). I was in the hospital for an entire week and then was transferred to Sacramento Post Acute (skilled nursing facility) until June 13th.

I won't return to work until June 23rd and will have missed 6 weeks of work. I'm supposed to get paid FMLA from EDD but the process has been extremely difficult from the hospital setting.

In order to go home, I had to spend nearly $1,000 on medical supplies. The VA literally only covered the wheelchair and the bedside commode. (I can barely walk to the bathroom and not all day.)

I super appreciate anything you are able to give. Please also share this on your Instagram/Facebook with your friends.

Thank you, Alison
