When I took my mom in after she fled my abusive father, I didn’t realize how much it would affect my own health. The stress reactivated my old concussion symptoms, and returning to work full-time triggered emergency-room-level “atypical ocular migraines”—migraines that attack my vision.

This past year I’ve been through ER visits, urgent appointments, and months of unemployment while caregiving. I don’t regret it—it was the right thing to do—but it’s left me with medical bills I can’t manage alone.

I set this fundraiser goal to cover the medical debt I thought I could get waived through hardship, but the hospital has refused, even though I was near the federal poverty line when I received the care.
