My name is Alisa Taubkina, and I am about to direct my Cinema Senior Thesis project at SFSU called "BRAINROT".
"BRAINROT" follows a chronically online influencer who has to confront our bizarre reality when her phone drowns in the toilet. This film shines a light on the uncomfortable parts of our lives: doomscrolling, tiny attention spans, overstimulation, and mental decline.
BRAINROT isn't about criticizing phones; it's about asking: "At what point do our phones stop being something we use and turn into something that USES US?"
Please help me bring this film to life by supporting my goal of raising $6,000. This funding is necessary for renting gear and insurance, compensating my crew, obtaining locations and permits, purchasing art props, and more. As a young filmmaker, financing a film is incredibly difficult, so your support would mean the absolute world to me!
About me: I’m a director and producer based in San Francisco, currently earning my B.A. in Cinema at San Francisco State University. I discovered my passion for filmmaking in a documentary class when I was eight years old, and since then I’ve studied at NYFA, NJ Film School, LACHSA and SFSU. At SFSU, I’ve directed 3 films and produced 5, worked as a Film Department Coordinator Assistant, helped produce major Cinema Department events, and served as President of the Cinema Collective. I’ve also worked professionally as a production assistant on the feature film Unsavory Elements and on local commercials.
SUPPORT BRAINROT!
Everything helps!
