Support Ali's Road to Recovery

As some of you may know Ali has been pretty sick for the better part of the last week and a half. On Saturday morning, 6/15, I came home from work to find Ali panting, extremely anxious, refusing to eat and not acting like himself. I then found 2 piles of throw up and a pile of poop. He never has accidents in the house. I let him outside and he had 2 episodes of diarrhea followed by another 4 episodes of vomiting all within 2 hours. He couldn’t get comfortable and kept pacing around the house. We were able to get into our vet around noon where he got a liter of fluid and some nausea medicine. A little over an hour later he had another episode of diarrhea with blood in it. His pacing and uncomfortableness go worse to the point he was shaking. I took him to the ER where he was given some more medicine. We were sent home and told he should be okay as long as he eats within 36 hours and continues to drink water. He still wasn’t eating and was now barely drinking. He wouldn’t sit in one spot for longer than 10 minutes. Around 8 he went outside and had an episode of straight blood diarrhea. I thought maybe that was the rest of it and got him up to bed, hopeful he’d feel better after some sleep. I got up about 30 mins later to go to the bathroom and stepped in blood. There were two decent sized puddles behind him and blood leaking out of him. He became extremely unsteady on his feet to the point I had to half carry him and fully lift him into the car. We got back to the vet and on the 10 minute car ride, there was a small puddle in my back seat and he was dripping on the floor on the way into the vet. He was rushed into the back and stabilized. He was admitted to the ICU for 2 days with a diagnosis of Hemorrhagic Diarrhea. He was discharged home mid-day on Monday 6/17. He was eating again but still absolutely exhausted and not fully acting like himself. Come Wednesday 6/19 he still hadn’t drank any water, was having significant diarrhea again and wouldn’t eat. I ended up bringing him back to the ER where he was given fluids and some nausea meds and sent home. By Friday he was eating normally and seemed to be starting to get back to himself. He had a follow up and yearly check up with his vet on Friday where we were told he looked good and everything was normal. Monday morning 6/23, around midnight, he threw up some of his last meal. He spent most of the rest of the night uncomfortable. Throughout the day Monday his diarrhea got worse, eventually turning to blood. He still was not drinking any water at this point. He began to have several episodes of dry heaving. When ever I would try to feed him, he would smell his food and end up either dry heaving or running outside to go to the bathroom. After several calls to our vet we were sent to a different Emergency Animal Hospital who has specialists on hand and is better equipped for large breed dogs, hopeful to finally get some answers.

Ali was admitted Monday night 6/26 and has been with Internal Medicine since. They have done several more tests on him and diagnosed him with Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Syndrome with dysbiosis. They performed a fecal transplant yesterday. We’re still waiting to hear if it has lead to any improvements.

The cost of the last week and a half of vet visits, testing, admissions, medications and everything in between has added up rather quickly. I would do anything for either of my babies. Anything at all would be greatly appreciated to help cover some of the costs.

Mama and Mili miss Ali boy so very much. Hopefully this will be the last of the visits and Ali will be back to his goofy self soon.

Update 6/26:
Ali gets to come home! He’s making huge improvements. He’s been taking big drinks of water . He hasn’t drank water since this all started. He’s been eating without any additional appetite stimulating medications. His diarrhea is starting to slowly improve. He will be on a medication for a month and another for a few days. He should be back to his normal food within a few days and back to himself in no time

I am so thankful we finally got a diagnosis and treatment plan. Thank you to everyone for all of the support over the last two weeks. Ali, Mili and I can not thank all of you enough ❤️
