My friends, for those who don't know I am currently undergoing chemotherapy as part of my cancer remission journey. This week, I officially became unemployed after using up all my paid and unpaid leave as a teacher. It’s been a difficult transition, as I’ve always been dedicated to my students and my work, but my health has to come first right now.

With 1.5 years of chemotherapy still ahead, I am facing the challenge of supporting myself and my family without a steady income. The financial strain is real—rent, bills, groceries, gas, my kids’ sports and activities, and ongoing medical expenses are all adding up quickly. I am doing everything I can to stay positive and hopeful, and I plan to return to work in a different capacity as soon as I am able.

If it wasn’t essential to ask for help, I would not do it. This is my first time as an adult being unemployed, and reaching out to my community is not easy. But your support would mean the world to me and my family during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help us get through this chapter and move toward a brighter future. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Other updates. Nic is back to work after being on unpaid leave for over a year to take care of me. All of the early support at the start of my journey enabled him to be the caretaker that our family needed at the time. Thank goodness that happened when it did because all my leave time has been exhausted. I am still on daily/weekly chemo pills and undergoing procedures (IT chemo and spinal tap) every month. I know to many it may seem like this has been going on for so very long, and you're right. It's been over a year. The ongoing love, support, and help we receive is never taken for granted and so very appreciated.
