Support Alice's Move to Safety

*We met our first goal and then, thanks to your generosity, we surpassed those. Thank you all for listening to our story and/or giving. It’s almost time for us to close this fundraiser and move on.*
It takes one moment for your life to change forever, and for us, that happened the night of November 5, 2024. As we watched the election results come in, we started to realize that the outcomes we hoped for weren’t going to become reality and we had to begin planning for a different reality.
After much thought, tears, conversation and heartbreak, we have made the decision for Alice to leave Texas effective January 2025. Transgender individuals are under attack at both the state and national level, and legislation has already been made in Texas that, quite frankly, is terrifying and puts Alice at risk. She will be moving to a sanctuary state that protects transgender individuals, their rights and health care.
Besides leaving her home state, Alice will also be leaving Melissa, her wife of almost 25 years behind. Don’t worry, our marriage is strong and we are not separated, getting a divorce, etc. There are various reasons (personal and professional) that Melissa will be staying in Texas, which makes this situation a million times more difficult and heartbreaking. At some point, we will reunite, either here in Texas or elsewhere, but all based on where Alice feels safe and secure. In the end, we would rather be proactive to potential future circumstances than reactive when changes take place.
We were not expecting this move, this temporary separation and the costs associated with it. Alice is flying to her destination and carrying a couple of suitcases with clothing, etc. Other things, housewares, toiletries, etc. will either have to purchased in Alice's new home state or be shipped until Melissa can make her first visit in March 2025. All of these things are costly and (as mentioned) unexpected. Anything helps as we are trying to navigate towards our new normal.
Be a vocal ally for transgender people as the fear-mongering and attack ads that were all over the place during this election, both at state and national level, worked and made this our new reality. If you want to know where to find information on the attacks on trans lives and rights, reach out to Alice for a list of resources, as well as check out erininthemorning on all social media as they have up-to-date news and information. Trans rights are human rights and that, honestly, shouldn’t have to be a point of contention in our society.
Thank you for your support, love and friendship during this extremely trying time in our lives. We will get through this only with support from you!
