I'm Alice, an art curator from Kyiv, Ukraine. Following Russia's initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014, I came to Los Angeles. Since then, I've made this place my home, carving out a fulfilling career in the local art world and making family out of friends.
Now, I face the possibility of needing to leave the US in 50 days unless I can hire an attorney to help me refile my application for residency.
Eight months ago, after 8 years in Los Angeles, I took the important step of applying for permanent residency, aiming to solidify my place in this country that I've grown to love. Unfortunately, I was not able to hire an attorney and instead worked with a paralegal. This led to the rejection of my case and the denial of the appeal.
Funds needed for legal support
Now I understand in order for my case to succeed, I need an attorney who knows the system far better than I do. However, this costs thousands of dollars that I do not have. In this critical juncture, I've taken the initiative to launch a fundraising campaign to raise $15,000 for legal support, which is what the attorney quoted me.
Returning to Ukraine could place me in danger due to Russia's invasion and the ongoing war. Over the years, I have made Los Angeles my home - fostering meaningful relationships in a city that I hope can also someday be my permanent legal residence.
Donate: Your support will directly contribute to securing the legal representation I urgently need.
Spread the Word: Please help me by sharing this campaign with your network.
I've never organized a fundraiser for myself. I am profoundly grateful for any support you can provide. Any funds beyond the donation limit that I do not use will be donated to UNITED24, a fundraising initiative to support Ukraine relief efforts.
Warm regards,
Alice
