Hello friends, family, and kind strangers my name is Alice Swan Brooks, and I’m reaching out during one of the toughest seasons of my life. Over the past months, I’ve lost my SNAP food assistance and Social Security income due to federal policy changes. I’ve been actively searching for work while leaning on local LGBTQ+ and mutual-aid groups for support. Yet, living as a trans woman in the South, I’ve been scared to take on in-person jobs because of potential discrimination and safety concerns.

Now, I face the urgent need for:

Stable, affirming housing

Gender-affirming care (laser hair removal and related treatments)

Legal identity updates (birth certificate, Social Security, driver’s license/ID)

Basic living expenses (rent, food, utilities)

I need your help to raise $10,000 so I can safely complete my transition journey and build a foundation for lasting stability.

What I’m Up Against

Lost Benefits: My SNAP and Social Security cuts have left me without a safety net. C-PTSD

Housing Insecurity: With limited income and eviction risk, I need six months of rent to stay safe. there is no garentee on my current living situation I do not know if i can stay here for long. landlord may be moving to Florida

Gender-Affirming Care Costs: Laser hair removal and co-pays add up, and insurance coverage is minimal.

Legal Identity Updates: Fees for updating my birth certificate, Social Security record, and driver’s license total nearly $2,000.

Job Search & Safety Concerns: I’m actively applying for remote and in-person roles, but I face safety fears as a trans woman in the South.

Basic Living Expenses: Without steady work, covering groceries, utilities, and medication with limited income is nearly impossible.
