Support Ali's (Abou Elya) Recovery from Spinal Cord Injury
My nephew and friend, Ali, is a loving son and hardworking father facing a challenging journey to regain his independence after a paralyzing spinal cord injury. While riding his motorcycle home from the beach on a Sunday evening, Ali had a devastating accident that fractured his spine, resulting in the immediate loss of movement and sensation from the waist down.
Ali's rehabilitation journey will be lengthy and demanding, both physically and financially. He has a family to support, including a 3-year-old toddler who will soon start school. We aim to raise
200,000€ to contribute to Ali's initial rehabilitation phase, which is expected to last 12 months. During this crucial phase, Ali will spend 3-6 months in a specialized rehab center in Lebanon. Additionally, we are looking for a ground-floor apartment to rent since his current residence is on the second floor without an elevator.
We are researching next steps and therapy options for Ali's continued care after the initial 3-6 months of rehab. As recommended by multiple doctors, we will have more clarity once the inflammation decreases. We will keep everyone informed as the family and doctors decide on the best therapy options.
If you would like to discuss additional ways of supporting or transferring money, especially for those in Lebanon, please contact us via WhatsApp at +961 3 757906 (Nadine B.).
IMPORTANT: This campaign has received consent from Ali Akif Cheaib (the patient) and his wife Zainab Seifeddine. They have authorized Nadine Badreddine (Ali's aunt) to handle the transfer of donations.
More about Ali's situation:
After the accident, Ali immediately presented complete paraplegia at level D11. Scans and a surgical approach revealed a complete rupture of the cord and its envelope at the level of D12. On July 22nd, the day after his accident, Ali underwent a posterior fixation of the D9-L2 thoracolumbar spine. Unfortunately, the spinal cord injury took away his ability to control his movements and feel his body from the waist down.
As his family, we are determined to do everything we can to ensure that Ali has the best chance to regain control over his body and improve his quality of life. Due to the financial situation in Lebanon, Ali was unable to renew his insurance in May. Our family has managed to cover his hospital costs and rehab center fees for the next month, as well as his basic needs. However, the long rehabilitation journey and the necessary life adjustments will be financially overwhelming, especially as the accident has affected his lower body.
Ali is expected to spend at least 3 months in the rehab center and will need a nurse and daily physiotherapy as an outpatient for up to 6 months. Based on our estimates, we need around €200,000 over the next 12 months. Our fundraising goal is to help cover the costs related to the first rehabilitation phase, living adjustments, and, based on the doctors' assessment after 3 months, reaching out to centers abroad to evaluate possible therapy and recovery options.
We will provide more details along the way, with necessary documents for full transparency and clarity.
Your contribution to Ali's medical expenses will enable him to receive proper medical care, live a more independent life, and increase his chances of a full recovery.
