Approximately fifteen years ago, Martha went in for a routine mammogram. Everything went well during the procedure until she received the results from her doctor. Martha was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, which had already metastasized to her lymph nodes.

She began chemotherapy and radiation therapy immediately and was prescribed various medications. About eight years ago, her doctors informed her that she was terminally ill, but Martha and her family refused to give up. She traveled to Mexico City for a second opinion and returned to San Diego to continue her treatment despite the grim diagnosis.

Throughout this time, her husband Alfredo and her son Freddie have experienced an emotional rollercoaster and faced significant financial hardship.

Fifteen years later, Martha has lost her battle with cancer. Her doctors have stopped treatment as the disease has spread to other parts of her body, including her brain, liver, and neck.

Comenzó quimioterapia y radioterapia de inmediato y le recetaron varios medicamentos. Hace unos ocho años, sus médicos le informaron que tenía una enfermedad terminal, pero Martha y su familia se negaron a darse por vencidos. Viajó a la Ciudad de México para obtener una segunda opinión y regresó a San Diego para continuar su tratamiento a pesar del sombrío diagnóstico. Durante este tiempo, su esposo Alfredo y su hijo Freddie han experimentado una montaña rusa emocional y han enfrentado importantes dificultades económicas. Quince años después, Martha ha perdido la batalla contra el cáncer. Sus médicos suspendieron el tratamiento debido a que la enfermedad se ha propagado a otras partes de su cuerpo, como el cerebro, el hígado y el cuello. Su familia y amigos esperan su fallecimiento.
