Support Alexus's Fight Against Epilepsy

Donation protected
Hello all, I'm LaToya and I'm one of Alexus's sisters. For those of you who may not know, Alexus has dealt with epilepsy since the age of 15 and she is now 26, so she's been fighting this disease for 11 years. She was stable with her medication for about 3 years and did not have a seizure until last July while on a family vacation. Since then, she has been experiencing several different medical challenges and most recently had to be hospitalized in February of 2024. She has been in the hospital since and spent a great deal of that time in the Neuro ICU. On May 17, the family and staff at MUSC called the family in because they did not feel Alexus was going to make it. Since being admitted to the hospital on February 21, 2024, she has had to have a feeding tube put in as well as a trach. She was on heavy sedation (propofol) as well as a ventilator for an extended period of time to keep her seizures at bay. At one point, she experienced a seizure that lasted for a total of 2 hours and the doctors were concerned about possible brain damage. They felt it was best to pull Alexus off the ventilator, but we (the family) prayed and asked God for guidance and HE said "Not yet." Fast forward to a few weeks later, and Alexus is now off the ventilator, she's off the sedation medication and is breathing on her own. She also has not had a seizure in a few weeks. While this is great news and we are elated that she's making progress, she still has a fight ahead of her. Alexus's condition is rare and according to her doctor, research suggests that a supplemental medication (uridine) may help her bounce back to her normal happy, bubbly, family oriented self. Unfortunately, this supplement is costly and it is not covered by her insurance. Our parents have been there beside Alexus every step of the way and have not left her side but are having to cover the costs of hotel stays, food, etc. in order to do so. We are trying to raise funds to help pay for this medication for Alexus as it is not in the hospital and we have to order it online directly from the pharmaceutical company. We are grateful for any and all contributions/donations towards her medication and even if you can only donate $1, it is still a help to the family and Alexus as she works towards recovery. Thank you in advance and God bless :)
