Support Alex's Recovery After Emergency Spinal Surgery
Donation protected
On April 20, Alex was out hiking the beautiful Laurel River Trail near Hot Springs, NC. Later on that evening, he felt some discomfort and stiffness in his neck and laid down to stretch out and was never able to get up. He managed to answer the phone after a long struggle. The paramedics were called, and they took him by ambulance to Mission Hospital. A full-body MRI revealed several compressed disks and a diagnosis of Central Cord Syndrome. The neurosurgeon explained that he would need immediate surgery to stabilize his neck and decompress his spinal cord. On April 23, Alex underwent a five-hour incredibly invasive surgery where they attached 10 screws and two rods to his spine. He’ll be in the spine ward at Mission Hospital for a few more days until being transferred to an inpatient rehab hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Inpatient rehab will be intense, but Alex remains positive and eager to regain independence. And while he has already shown improvement since surgery, the road to recovery could be long. The physical nature of Alex’s job will put him out of work for the foreseeable future. Any help that you can provide would be used to pay household bills and the initial medical costs. He absolutely loves setting up and being a part of live events and music shows and helping be a part of people enjoying themselves. Let’s help him get back to doing what he loves. Thank you for any support that you’re able to provide. Peace and love.
