The Sudden Turn
Our bright, resilient, Alex, recently experienced a sudden and terrifying health crisis. Out of nowhere, her body began failing her, leading to an urgent hospitalisation. After days of exhausting tests, scans, and endless uncertainty, we finally received a diagnosis: Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
What is FND?
FND is a complex condition where the brain struggles to send and receive signals properly to the rest of the body. Think of it like a computer software glitch—the hardware (the nervous system) is intact, but the operating system is crashing. For Alex, this has manifested in severe, physically exhausting ways. She is currently battling intense involuntary tremors, painful tics, a complete inability to walk, and she is also unable to talk.
A Loving Mum's Biggest Challenge
Beyond the immense physical toll, this diagnosis is heartbreaking for Alex as a mother. Her absolute world is her 6-year-old son. Right now, instead of talking, laughing, and playing with her little boy, she is confined to a hospital bed, trapped in a body she cannot control. Her primary motivation is getting back home to him, but she needs intensive support to regain her voice and her mobility.
The Road Ahead
The reality of FND is incredibly daunting. There is no quick fix or magic pill. Her path to recovery requires intensive, multi-disciplinary rehabilitation. She will need specialised physiotherapy to help her walk again, speech therapy to help her find her voice, neurological care to manage the tremors and tics, and targeted support to retrain her brain.
How You Can Help
This diagnosis has turned Alex’s world upside down. The financial strain of a sudden hospitalisation, potential specialist treatments and equipment and necessary time off work is rapidly mounting—all while trying to ensure her 6-year-old son is cared for and stable during this unsettling time.
We are launching this GoFundMe to ensure Alex can access critical care without delay and support her little family. Your generous donations will go directly toward:
* Specialist neurological rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and speech therapy
* Mobility aids, communication tools, and adaptive equipment
* Travel costs to medical appointments
* Support and essentials for her son during her recovery
* Essential living expenses while she is unable to work
Every single contribution, no matter the size, relieves a massive burden so she can focus entirely on healing and getting back to her son. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page with your network would mean the world to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers, and kindness during this incredibly challenging chapter.
