Support Alex's Journey to Recovery and Hope

Hola soy Alex, tengo 34 años y soy el mayor de 4 hermanos. Estudie Derecho en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y me encantan los deportes. Vivo en Bogotá, Colombia.

Después de la pandemia trabajaba desde casa de manera virtual y los viernes asistía de manera presencial, me iba en bicicleta disfrutando del camino.

A inicio de octubre de 2023 empecé a notar que mis dedos de la mano izquierda se dormían y al caminar o montar en la bicicleta sentía como si estuviera flotando, no sentía los pies ni sentía cansancio. A mediados de octubre sentí la necesidad de asistir al médico quien me diagnosticó con otitis; sin embargo, los síntomas empeoraron y decidieron hacerme una resonancia que mostró como resultado una inflamación en la médula espinal.

Después de trasladarme a diferentes hospitales, finalmente me remitieron a neurología en la clínica Mederi. Al 31 de octubre me hicieron una biopsia al nivel C1 pensando que se trataba de un tumor y el 2 de noviembre me enviaron a mi casa con una dosis de 5mm de corticoides con la movilidad disminuida hasta que el 5 de noviembre quede inmóvil y con problemas de respiración, lo que me llevo a ser hospitalizado de nuevo y entrar a cuidados intensivos.

Mi diagnostico después de muchos exámenes y pruebas es que padezco de una Mielitis Transversal Aguda en Enfermedad Desmielinizante del Sistema Nervioso Central.

El 30 de noviembre me enviaron para mi casa en estado de cuadriplejia y el 12 de diciembre inicie mi rehabilitación en “Mobility Group” con un costo mensual de COP $10.600.000; sin embargo, los recursos se fueron agotando.

Gracias a Dios encontramos otro centro de rehabilitación “Biomedical Group” en donde el costo mensual es de COP $2.500.000; por lo que estoy muy agradecido; sin embargo, los recursos se agotan, es por eso que acudo a esta página con el propósito de obtener fondos y así poder cubrir no solo las terapias sino también las medicinas, el transporte, etc.

Hello, I'm Alex. I'm 34 years old and I'm the oldest of 4 siblings. I studied Law at the National University of Colombia and I love sports.

After the pandemic, I worked from home virtually and on Fridays I attended in person. I went on a bicycle enjoying the road.

At the beginning of October 2023, I began to notice that my fingers on my left hand were falling asleep, and when walking or riding a bicycle, I felt like I was floating. I couldn't feel my feet nor did I feel tired. In mid-October, I felt the need to go to the doctor who diagnosed me with otitis; however, the symptoms worsened and they decided to do an MRI, which showed inflammation in the spinal cord.

After moving to different hospitals, I was finally referred to neurology at Mederi Clinic. On October 31, they did a biopsy at the C1 level, thinking it was a tumor, and on November 2, they sent me home with a 5mm dose of corticosteroids with reduced mobility. Until November 5, when I was immobile and had problems breathing, which led me to be hospitalized again and enter intensive care.

My diagnosis after many examinations and tests is that I suffer from Acute Transverse Myelitis in Demyelinating Disease of the Central Nervous System.

On November 30, I was sent home in a state of quadriplegia and on December 12, I began my rehabilitation at “Mobility Group” with a monthly cost of COP $10,600,000; however, resources were running out.

Thank God we found another rehabilitation center “Biomedical Group” where the monthly cost is COP $2,500,000, for which I am very grateful; however, resources are running out. That is why I go to this page with the purpose of obtaining funds and thus being able to cover not only the therapies but also the medicines, transportation, etc.
