On August 1st, after battling what they thought was another stomach bug from daycare, Chuck and Heather learned that their three year old son Alex had a brain tumor on the back of his head. He would later be diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. This is a very rare form of brain cancer that impacts aprox 300-500 children each year. This aggressive and fast spreading cancer required immediate brain surgery on Alex just 48 hours later.
Now Chuck, Heather, Jacob and Alex have begun a long journey that will involve chemotherapy, PT, OT, speech therapy and possibly radiation. We are still unsure at this point what this next year will look like for Alex; however we are certain of one thing- they are going to need a lot of support. It is their goal to keep life as normal as possible for 6 year old Jacob as he starts 1st grade this year, while at the same time surrounding Alex with as much support and love that he needs to battle back to health. The reality is that they both have to work. Not only will they have tremendous medical expenses, they are going to need people to help with the day to day activities of a house with kids. On top of that we know that Alex is going to need ongoing support after this nightmare is over.
The money we raise will go to help the family get the people and resources they require to survive this.
This situation is one that no 3 year old child, parent or brother should ever have to endure. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated. Any amount will add up!
Thank you from the Schreiner family
