Support Alex's Journey in Deaf Education

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to share some exciting developments in my academic and professional journey and to seek your support for an incredible opportunity that will further my work in the field of inclusive education for the deaf.

As you may know, in August I was honored to receive an award from the British Embassy to pursue a master’s degree at The University of Edinburgh. This was the culmination of a year of intense preparation, including applications to several UK universities, English proficiency exams, multiple trips to Mexico City for interviews, and gathering the necessary documentation. It has been a challenging yet incredibly rewarding experience, and I am proud to be studying at one of the world’s leading institutions, particularly one that specializes in the education of deaf learners.

Over the past few months, I have immersed myself in the academic rigor required by my program, exploring fascinating topics such as autism, language acquisition, specific language difficulties, epilepsy, policy, and special educational practices. In addition, I have been actively engaging with leaders in the deaf community in Ensenada, working toward plans for the inclusion of deaf teachers, students, and families, as well as designing a strategy to advocate for the enforcement of current educational policies. My dissertation will focus on analyzing these critical issues and exploring solutions that could positively impact our region.

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking with one of the leading researchers in deaf education here in Scotland. Our conversation centered around my professional plans and the ways I can contribute to the deaf community in Baja California. One of the most valuable pieces of advice I received was to attend the International Congress on the Education of the Deaf, the oldest and most prestigious event in the field of deaf education. This congress provides a unique platform for learning about innovative solutions from around the world, especially from developing countries like Mexico. It will also allow me to expand my academic network and gain insights that will be invaluable as I pursue my own research opportunities in the future.

However, this opportunity is not included in my program’s funding, and the associated costs are significant. For this reason, I am reaching out to seek your support in covering some of the expenses for my travel to Rome this summer. Attending this congress will not only enhance my education but also allow me to make meaningful contributions to the deaf community in Baja California and beyond. I would be truly grateful for any support you can offer to help me make this important opportunity a reality. Your contribution will directly support my participation in this pivotal event, helping me to broaden my knowledge and network in the field of deaf education. Thank you for considering my request.

Warm regards,
Alex
