My name is Alex, and over the past several months my life changed very suddenly.
I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and required emergency surgery, followed by extensive testing, frequent specialist visits, and chemotherapy. The diagnosis and treatment came quickly and with little time to prepare—physically, emotionally, or financially.
I live on my own and work both a full-time and part-time job. Until this happened, I was just managing to cover rent, utilities, food, and basic necessities. However, the volume of medical appointments, testing, and treatment—combined with time missed from work and the realities of recovery—quickly overwhelmed what little financial cushion I had. My savings were exhausted, and I had no choice but to rely on credit cards to cover upfront medical costs so that treatment would not be delayed or denied.
Complicating matters further, I am also a Type 1 diabetic, which adds ongoing medical expenses and makes missed work and recovery even more challenging. Despite doing everything I can to keep working and stay afloat, the medical bills continue to pile up faster than I can manage.
Recently, follow-up testing revealed enlarged lymph nodes in my chest. Thankfully, initial results suggest that they are most likely not cancerous, but further scans, specialist appointments, and additional testing are still required to determine the exact cause and what treatment, if any, will be needed. While this has been a relief emotionally, it still means continued medical appointments and added costs at a time when I am already stretched beyond my limits.
Asking for help does not come easily to me. I have always tried to be independent and to be someone others can rely on. But right now, I am doing my best to navigate a situation that is simply bigger than what I can handle alone.
Any support you are able to give will go directly toward covering medical bills related to my cancer treatment and the credit card debt incurred to receive necessary care. If donations exceed what is ultimately needed, I am committed to paying it forward by helping others facing similar medical hardships.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for sharing it, and for any support you may be able to offer. Your kindness truly means more than I can express.
