Dear Family, Friends, Military brothers-in-arms & Kind Strangers,
Our beloved friend, brother and son Alex is in the fight of his life at the young age of 31. Just this past week, after experiencing severe headaches and vision problems, Alex received devastating news—he has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancerous tumor on his brain roughly the size of a golf ball.
Alex has always been the kind of person who makes the world around him a little brighter. From a
young age, he’s had a calm and curious spirit-always thinking, always observing, always offering quiet words of wisdom far beyond his years. His creative mind sees beauty where others might overlook it, and his love for nature reflects the kindness and depth of his heart. As an older brother, he’s been a steady role model.
As part of our extended family, Alex is someone we’ve all leaned on -always there with a listening ear, a gentle word, or simply his steady presence.
Whether he is whipping up a velvet cake, tracking down the best Shawarma in town, or staying on top of the latest food trends, Alex’s love for food makes him the ultimate foodie!
Alex has proudly serves in the Pennsylvania National Guard nearly 12 years at the rank of SGT, demonstrating dedication and professionalism. As a skilled Apache and Blackhawk mechanic, he plays a vital role in maintaining mission readiness. From 2020-2021, Alex was deployed overseas, where he continued to exemplify his commitment to service. Beyond his technical expertise, Alex finds deep fulfillment in mentoring fellow soldiers-whether on duty or in everyday life. His passion for leadership and camaraderie reflects his strong desire to remain an active and valued member of the National Guard family.
Alex’s Journey Ahead
Since the diagnosis last week, things are moving at rapid pace and we’re trying to stay in front of this heartbreaking news. Alex will undergo emergency surgery to remove part of the tumor. He will face months of intensive treatment, including radiation, chemotherapy, and countless appointments with specialists. He’s fighting not only for his life, but also to regain basic functions that most of us take for granted.
Unfortunately, this fight will come with overwhelming financial burden we are planning for. Medical bills and insurance we are hoping will be covered, but we are planning for the worst. Alex, will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. On top of that, there are daily costs—travel to appointments, medications, physical therapy, and other necessities.
Note: After speaking with our son, Alex, he has confirmed that he would like us—his parents, Rodney Broaddus and Miriam Broaddus-Marienfeld—to manage the funds on his behalf. All funds will be handled solely by us.
How You Can Help
We are asking for your support in any way possible. Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
* Medical expenses not covered by insurance
* Travel costs for treatment
* Home care and rehabilitation support
* Daily living costs while Alex cannot work
No donation is too small, and every share of this campaign helps spread the word.
If you can’t give financially, please consider sharing this page and keeping Alex in your prayers. Your support and love mean more than words can express.
