Hi, I’m Alison, and I am a long-term friend of the Hamilton family. This GoFundMe has been created to support beautiful Alexa and her family during the unthinkable journey they now face.
About Alexa
Alexa is a happy, fun-loving 5-year-old from Sydney. She is the youngest of three children, little sister to Zara and Jai, and proudly started Kindergarten this year.
Cheeky, headstrong, vibrant and full of personality, Alexa has a great sense of humour and isn’t afraid to stand her ground, despite being the youngest.
She loves mermaids, unicorns, princesses and everything pink. Some of her favourite things are watching Bluey, Sam & Cat and Gabby’s Dollhouse, playing with her Barbie dolls, and sharing endless giggles while mucking around with her big sister.
What Happened
Earlier this year, Justine and Greg’s world changed forever.
Alexa was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma / Diffuse Midline Glioma (DIPG/DMG), an aggressive and devastating form of childhood brain cancer.
There is currently no cure.
Due to the location of the tumour, it is impossible to safely remove with surgery. Despite decades of research, treatment options remain extremely limited, and every family who hears these words knows they are facing one of the most heartbreaking diagnoses imaginable.
No parent ever expects to hear that their healthy, beautiful five-year-old daughter has terminal brain cancer. There are simply no words that can prepare a family for that moment.
DIPG/DMG is rare, affecting only around 20 to 25 children each year in Australia, yet it is one of the deadliest childhood cancers. Most people have never heard of it until it touches someone they love.
Alexa should be learning to read, making friends, laughing with her brother and sister, and simply enjoying the carefree childhood she deserves—not living with terminal brain cancer before she’s even had the chance to grow up.
Giving Alexa Every Chance
Since Alexa’s diagnosis, Justine and Greg have devoted every moment to giving her the very best chance possible.
Alexa has bravely completed six weeks of radiotherapy and has now commenced a clinical trial through Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. Like so many families facing this disease, they are pursuing every promising treatment and every opportunity that offers hope, while researchers around the world continue working tirelessly towards a cure.
Along the way, they have met other families living this same nightmare—families who are desperately fighting for more time with their children and raising awareness so that one day no parent has to hear this diagnosis again.
How You Can Help
Alexa’s family should be focused on loving and caring for her, not carrying the crushing financial burden that comes with a diagnosis like this.
Your donation will go towards taking the pressure off medical costs, bills, potential treatments in the future, and the time Justine and Greg need away from work to stay by Alexa’s side. It will also help give them the chance to make precious memories with Alexa and be fully present for Zara and Jai during this heartbreaking time.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a real difference and gives this family one less thing to worry about. If you can’t donate, please share Alexa’s story and help us reach others who can.
Please donate or share today and help support Alexa and her family through the hardest journey of their lives.
