My name is Alexandra Farah Peña and I am doing this for my stepdad in Cape Coral. As some of you know, my mom is dealing with her condition called aphasia and has onset dementia. My stepdad, her husband, just turned 70 and just got diagnosed with lung and throat cancer. He does it all. He cooks, cleans, takes care of her like nobody else could, and is absolutely the funniest and most talkative human being you will ever meet. He is too much of a stubborn person to accept help at times, so I figured this would be the best way to do so since he won’t have a choice. :-)
He has shared cost Medicaid at the moment, which pretty much means he is responsible for paying anything that costs under $3,000 a month for his care. My mom’s long-term care took 9 months to get approved and I don’t know what will happen if that happens with him too now that I am reapplying him with a diagnosis. With a person now paid through her Medicaid to watch her Monday-Friday, my stepdad can focus on his chemotherapy treatments and will have time to take care of himself.
This will help with medical bills as their day to day costs are supported by my mom’s Medicaid monthly assistance. However, financially speaking, they will struggle until he can get approved for long-term care. Any help (and prayers) are appreciated.
