Support Alexandra, Peter, and Baby Mukeni

Donation protected
We are asking for your help to support our dear friends Alexandra, Peter (aka Ngemi), and baby Mukeni who are facing crisis. Early Tuesday morning 11/18/25, while at a routine appointment to get his green card, Peter was abducted by ICE in San Francisco and taken from his family to California City Detention Facility (7 hours away in the middle of the Mojave Desert). The family’s life has been turned upside down in an instant. They are doing everything they can to communicate with Peter. They now have legal representation and are facing many unknowns. They urgently need financial help to cover legal fees and living costs while fighting for Peter’s freedom.

About Peter and his family

Peter is a beloved community member, husband, and father. He was born in Kenya and has lived in the US for over twenty years. He and Alexandra fell in love and have built a beautiful life together - they got married and now have a six-month old baby.

The family depends entirely on Peter for essential care as he is the family's primary support system. Peter is the primary caregiver for baby Mukeni during the week, and he also works on weekends. Alexandra is disabled and legally blind, and as a school teacher she depends on Peter to care for baby Mukeni while at work. She cannot drive and relies on Peter for driving to appointments and errands. She is worried about how to visit him at the detention center, which is a 7 hour drive away, and where there is no public transportation.

Peter has deep roots in our community. He is a beloved soccer and rugby referee at the high school and college level. He volunteers at film festivals and bike fundraisers. He is a very sweet soul, who loves women’s sports and collecting shoes.

Beyond the extreme emotional trauma of being forcefully separated, especially during baby Mukeni’s most important time for bonding, the family is facing unknown and high legal fees and difficulty meeting living expenses. Their close friends and family have come together to support Alexandra and baby Mukeni, but they will need help covering their living costs and legal fees for the foreseeable future as they find the path to Peter’s freedom.

How funds will be used

Amount: $20,000-30,000
  • Legal fees and expenses.
  • Commissary – To put money in Peter’s account for simple items like food, soap, and other hygiene products.
  • Phone calls with Peter
  • Transportation and lodging to visit Peter in detention.
  • Help with living expenses.
  • Emergency cushion fund to cover lost income, unanticipated expenses, etc.
  • Transportation support – Alexandra is legally blind and unable to drive herself. Without him to help her get to appointments, she will need to take more ride shares.
  • Childcare while Alexandra is working or busy managing Peter's case as needed.

Note: If you know Alexandra, please feel free to make a direct donation to her.

Any amount—however small—is deeply appreciated, as is sharing this fundraiser with others. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the support we've received in so many ways!
