Hi there...my name is Alexa Sosso. I am now 26 and I went through a huge, traumatic surgery. In January of this year (2024), I started to feel really sick for weeks. Finally, on the 17th, I went to the hospital. I had the symptoms of orange pee, distended stomach, swollen body, no appetite, vomiting bile, yellowing skin. When I went to the ER, they made me do a CT scan and found I had cirrhosis of the liver. In other words, my liver was failing. I was immediately admitted and stayed at the first hospital for 2 weeks. We found out I had Wilson's disease. My liver wasn't processing the copper out of my body and caused me to need a transplant.
I was transported to Tampa General Hospital and was immediately tested again for everything. I had 2 transjugular biopsies, my AST and ALT were through the roof and my MELD score was so astronomically high that I was immediately put to the top of the Transplant list. I received my beautiful gift on February 8th, 2024. I am so grateful to the donor and the family of my donor for raising a beautiful soul, that was willing to donate their organs. I am alive today because of them.
I ended up being in the hospital for 29 days and have gathered an insane amount of medical bills and I need help. I can't afford to pay and I'm really struggling to make ends meet right now. I have a 20-month-old baby and I am doing my best to give her a good life, but I can't work so soon after the transplant and on meds. I am asking, if anyone feels so inclined to do so, to please help me if you can. My family would greatly appreciate it.
