I’m reaching out to share the story of my friend Alexa, an emergency room nurse at a Level Two hospital. She’s currently facing challenges with the renewal of her DACA citizenship, which has taken longer than expected. Unfortunately, this delay has impacted her ability to continue working at the hospital. As if that weren’t enough, Alexa is also seven months pregnant, meaning she won’t receive maternity leave or any income until her situation is resolved.

Alexa has dedicated her career to caring for others, often putting her own needs aside to help patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments. Now, she finds herself in a difficult position, unable to work and provide for herself and her soon-to-be-born child. The uncertainty of her situation has added a lot of stress during what should be a joyful time in her life.
