Support Alex with MND Lifestyle Adjustments
In the year of 2019, my stepdad Alex Fraser was officially diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).
As you can imagine this has taken a massive emotional toll on both Alex and my family.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rare neurological condition that causes the degeneration (deterioration and loss of function) of the motor system (the cells and nerves in the brain and spinal cord which control the muscles in our bodies). This results in weakness and wasting of the muscles. Once the neurones die, the muscles waste away, and with them the ability to move, speak, swallow and, ultimately, breathe. Doctors consider it the worst disease in medicine, because of their own inability to offer effective treatment.
The aim of this Go Fund Me page is to raise money to ease the financial burden on both my mum and Alex.
Everyday life is becoming more and more difficult and simple tasks such as showering, dressing and eating, require enormous strain and effort. Due to this many modifications are required to be done to support Alex. Ease of transport to and from home, with the use of a car and the ease of ability to move within the home with wheelchair accessibility. Renovations in the home, not only for wheelchair access, but use of the bathroom and simply sitting back in an accessible chair, relaxing and watching some Netflix!
NDIS have been a great support to my family but unfortunately the funding and approvals take significant time and if you know MND, time is precious. To be able to support Alex with his quality of life it would be great to get these necessary equipment and adjustments done sooner rather than later.
Alex has been a big support for me through my life and I would like to try and help support him through this next chapter of his life. Any donations, big or small will help make a huge difference to our family and we would be forever thankful and grateful.
