Support Alex Barrera-Bejjani's Recovery Journey

Donation protected
The CHI St. Luke’s PMC family is organizing a GoFundMe for the Barrera-Bejjani family as we feel the need to support our extended PMC family in whatever way we can.

On August 4th, 2024, Claudia Alexis, age 31 & known to her family & friends as Alex, was in a severe car accident along with her husband, Chris Bejjani. Alex is the oldest daughter of Ana Barrera, CHI St. Luke’s PMC Imaging Director for the past 8 years, and Joe Barrera, a police officer with Pasadena ISD. Alex also has a beautiful 2 year old son and two siblings, Bodie (30) and Marc (26). Marc is also an employee at CHI St. Luke’s PMC in the admissions department.

Chris was taken to the Emergency Department and discharged the next morning with a concussion, multiple lacerations, and a broken arm; however, Alex was not as fortunate as it took approximately 45 minutes to extract her from their car. She was taken to Northwest Houston Hospital, immediately intubated, and underwent an emergent aortic arch and right subclavian artery repair called TEVAR (Transthoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair) following a diagnosis of an aortic arch dissection. Alex was also diagnosed with a broken left arm, a traumatic left hand injury, an open laceration to the bottom of her chin, and a left thigh abrasion. Initial brain scans on admission reported no abnormalities; however, during Alex’s follow up imaging physicians discovered that Alex did in fact have multiple bleeds in her brain requiring her to have a right sided craniotomy on August 13th to relieve intracranial pressure.

Alex has also undergone the first stages of repairing her left hand which was "degloved,” meaning that the skin, tissue, ligaments and tendons of the hand were torn away. This traumatic injury will require multiple procedures and surgeries to hopefully restore function to the extremity. She currently has a wound vac and is scheduled for another surgery in a few weeks to undergo a skin graft to cover the wound.

Alex is a stay at home mom to Luke, her 2 year old son. On the day of the accident, Luke was with Ana and Joe and has remained in their care since the accident. Chris and Alex run an independent specialty auto repair business in Spring, Texas. Though they are insured, funds need to be raised to support the increasing medical expenses and rehabilitation care for Alex and her family. At this time Alex is still intubated and her amazing parents and family remain at her side daily.

Any contribution is very much appreciated and it is with huge gratitude that we, the PMC family and extended family, thank you for your generosity.
