Support Alex and Watson in Crisis

I feel weird doing this, but many friends have suggested it. My daughter, Alex, has a cat who's having emergency surgery today. She's had Watson, and his littermate Holmes, since 2019 when both were a few weeks old. They became her children in all but biology during the isolation of covid lockdown the last semester of her senior year in college and first semester of med school.
In the wee hours today, Alex had to pay $5900 up front on her credit card last night or the emergency vet wouldn't do the surgery. Final bill may go up to $9000 if Watson needs a bowel resection.
This situation will eat up a huge chunk of the salary she's earning this summer to defray student loans, and it'll wreck her credit score so she can't move out of the roach-infested building she's living in.
I can't help much because of unavoidable purchases sitting on my own credit card. I asked if it was worth wrecking her life for the cat and she burst into tears over the phone. More tears when she got home. Now I'm a bad guy in her eyes. My heart aches for her.
Anything anyone can give to help will be greatly appreciated, good thoughts included.
