Support Alex and Pepe in Their Time of Crisis

Alex has a nightly routine with his beloved dogs, Pepe & Beso. Every evening, before heading to bed, he takes Pepe and his other dog Beso outside for one last bathroom break. When they return inside, Alex carefully cleans them to keep his home fresh and tidy. But on Thursday night, something was different—while cleaning Pepe, he noticed blood. Concerned but unsure of the cause, he kept a close eye on him.
By Friday morning, things took a turn for the worse. Pepe, usually full of energy and life, was struggling to urinate. The first time he tried, nothing came out. Alex went about his day but soon realized Pepe still wasn’t peeing. He also wasn’t eating as much, which was unlike him. As the hours passed, Alex became more worried. By Friday night, when Pepe still hadn’t urinated, Alex knew something was seriously wrong and called the vet again.
When Alex woke up on Saturday morning, his worst fears were confirmed—Pepe looked weak and had no energy. He rushed him to Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH), where they discovered that bladder stones were blocking Pepe from urinating. Emergency surgery was needed immediately. Alex, without hesitation, approved the procedure, desperate to save his best friend. That night, Pepe returned home to recover, and although weak, he seemed a little responsive, giving Alex hope.
But by Sunday morning, things took another devastating turn. Pepe wasn’t eating, wasn’t moving much, and had no energy. Panicked, Alex called the vet, who urged him to bring Pepe back to the ER. Once there, the doctors delivered crushing news—Pepe’s bladder had started leaking urine into his abdomen, causing a severe and life-threatening septic infection. Another emergency surgery was needed to flush out the infection and properly close his bladder.
Now, Pepe is fighting for his life in critical condition. On top of everything, his pancreas is inflamed from the medication, and he’s showing early signs of pneumonia. Despite everything, Pepe’s spirit is strong. He’s not just any dog—he is a beloved member of the neighborhood. He is friendly, full of love, and adored by everyone who meets him. His warm presence has brought joy to so many lives, and now, he needs help more than ever.
But Pepe isn’t the only one suffering. His brother, Beso, is now severely depressed without him. The two have been inseparable, and without Pepe by his side, Beso refuses to eat and barely moves. He just wants his best friend back.
This battle isn’t just Pepe’s. Alex, who has always been there for Pepe, Beso, and his community, is now struggling. The medical bills at MASH have climbed to an overwhelming $100,000, a cost that no one could have prepared for. Alex, who lives alone, is now faced with an impossible choice—saving his best friend or keeping a roof over his head. The weight of this burden is unbearable.
We know that $100,000 is no joke—it’s a massive goal, and we understand how difficult it is. But truly, anything helps. Any amount, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated. The goal isn’t just to cover the full cost but to help in any way possible and take some of the weight off Alex’s shoulders.
Now, the neighborhood that Alex has always been a part of wants to come together for him. He has been a great friend to so many, and no one wants to see him lose everything while fighting for Pepe’s life. The goal is simple: help Alex stay on his feet, take the financial stress off his shoulders, and give Pepe the best chance at survival. Because no one should have to choose between saving their best friend and having a place to call home.
