Alessandra Eugenia Barrientos Fernandez, a bright and loving 18 year-old from Peru, is fighting for her life after suffering a sudden and massive brain hemorrhage caused by a rare condition called an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in her cerebellum.
On July 6, 2025, Alessandra was rushed to the emergency room after collapsing with a severe headache, vomiting, and loss of consciousness. Doctors discovered she had experienced bleeding in the back of her brain, which had caused life-threatening pressure, hydrocephalus (fluid buildup), and brainstem compression.
She was immediately taken into emergency brain surgery to relieve the pressure through a decompressive craniectomy and external ventricular drainage. Since then, she has been in intensive care, on a ventilator, sedated, and in extremely critical condition. Her cranium is still currently open and she'll likely need two more operations.
Despite being treated in Peru, the cost of Alessandra’s surgeries, ICU stay, medications, and equipment exceeds what her family can afford. Her condition is extremely complex, and every day in intensive care increases the financial burden.
Proverbs 19:17 reads "One who is gracious to a poor person lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his good deed." With your generous help, our family can afford to pay for the treatment and ongoing recovery that Alessandra urgently needs!
Thank you, God bless.
