Hello, my name is Aldo Garcia. I am the owner and operator of a food pop-up in Atlanta, Georgia called Lil Tamale Boi. I've been a chef by trade for about 20 years. Asheville, NC is where I lived for 7 years and I learned to cook in the early years of my career. Originally, I am from Wilmington, NC, so I am very familiar with the aftermath of hurricanes and the damage flooding can cause.
Recently, Western NC and the surrounding area have been struck with disaster flooding by Hurricane Helene. My mission is simply to gather supplies from Atlanta and drive them to Asheville to help in whatever way possible. I have a Tacoma truck and as of now, the plan is to load it up.
Asheville has a special place in my heart. I still hold many relationships, after 15 years, with residents in the Asheville area. It breaks my heart to see the businesses in hospitality industries and others that might not make it. Doc Chey's, Biscuit Head, and Zambra were some of the establishments that employed me, and I want to give back to the community in any way possible. Asheville was the first place that I fell in love with a beautiful girl who went to UNCA, my first sous chef position at Lexington Ave Brewery, and the first time that I lived by myself in a garage apartment in Montford ($700 back then). A recent death of a good friend has taught me that there is no better time to act than right now. I say all of this because no matter how small of a connection you have with someone, tomorrow is not promised. Donate what you can and love the people around you.
I will be posting the progress on IG at https://www.instagram.com/chef_aldo_garcia?igsh=YzM4Z3o3YnN3OG81
