Hello everyone,
My name is Alan Hagerman, and asking for help is honestly one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I’ve always been the person taking care of others, working in healthcare as a CNA and putting my patients first. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, I neglected taking care of myself.
Last year, I developed a wound on my right foot that eventually became severely infected. After an MRI, I was diagnosed with osteomyelitis (a bone infection) and spent months on antibiotics and in wound care treatment. While trying to heal, I developed a second wound on my left foot that also became infected and led to osteomyelitis in that foot as well.
Since January, I have been unable to work and was instructed by urgent care and wound specialists to stay off my feet as much as possible to prevent further damage and possible amputation. I currently use offloading devices, including a boot and special medical shoes, and spend most of my time resting with my feet elevated.
One positive thing is that I was able to move back home to Tennessee to be closer to family support during all of this. I was approved for SNAP benefits and am currently awaiting TennCare/Medicaid approval while continuing ongoing medical treatment and disability paperwork.
I’m doing everything I can to heal. I changed my diet, lowered my A1c from diabetic to pre-diabetic range, follow wound care instructions closely, and continue trying to stay hopeful and faithful through this process. I’m also searching for remote work opportunities when my health allows.
Right now, the biggest struggle is financial. Being unable to work has left me trying to cover medical costs, transportation, basic living expenses, wound care supplies, and ongoing treatment while having little to no income.
If you are able to help in any way through donations, prayers, or simply sharing this page, I would be deeply grateful. Every bit truly helps relieve stress while I focus on healing and hopefully getting back to work and normal life.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and God bless each of you.
