Alanna and Mikey, and big sister, Piper, welcomed Scout Lori Rademacher to the world on July 19th at one pound even. She’s a feisty little girl!

On Thursday 7/17, at 26 weeks pregnant, Alanna was airlifted from Enloe Hospital in Chico to Sutter Health in Sacramento due to extremely high blood pressure and because Scout was measuring below the first percentile and had very low amniotic fluid. At Sutter, they diagnosed placental insufficiency, which is highly - almost completely - restricting nutrients from getting to Scout. The doctor assured them that this was no consequence from any action or decision, this outcome was due to the placenta itself. Scout was very small, lacking in fluids, and her heart rhythm was doing things that were quite concerning to the doctors. They opted to get betamethisone shots, the second of which was Friday (7/18) evening. Those shots are to help strengthen the baby’s lungs and tend to be at highest efficiency 24 hours after the second shot. They performed an emergency c-section on Saturday (7/19) morning and in a quick and efficient procedure, Scout arrived into the world at 1 pound even. She’s small, but mighty!

She’ll be in the very capable hands in the NICU at Sutter until at least late October.

Alanna and Mikey need support from their community and right now that support is financial to cover costs of bills, food, lodging, and more. They are pushing forward; there are a lot of unknowns and the road ahead is projected to be very long. So they’re just taking it hour by hour. ❤️
