Support Alan Twomley's Fight Against Cancer

If you live or grew up in Fitchburg, you know Alan Twomley. In the rare case that you’ve never met Alan, you’ve seen him. Maybe he was behind the wheel of the firetruck you saw speeding through town, or his face and voice was the one that kept you calm in the back of an ambulance. Maybe you know him as the consistent presence at Fitchburg High School for an astonishing 100 seasons over the past 34 years serving as both an EMT and athletic trainer. If you ever walked through the halls of Fitchburg High School, you may also know him as the TV studio teacher who coordinated the morning announcements and had all the keys.

This may read like a detailed brag about the thousands of young people and adults that have been supported (whether they know it or not) by Alan Twomley. Truthfully, it is – but Twomley would hate that. He is allergic to credit and receiving accolades. He is genuine, selfless, and serves this community because it’s part of his character – it’s his life force.

Recently, Alan was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had to undergo surgery to remove one of his kidneys. He is now facing a long recovery while undergoing immunotherapy, which has left him exhausted most of the time. The financial strain is significant, with mounting medical bills, travel expenses for treatment in Boston, and lost wages for both Alan and his wife, Renée. Despite these challenges, Alan remains positive and focused on his recovery, supported by Renée and their beloved rescue dog.

Alan has never wanted to ask for anyone's help, in fact he sounded more hesitant describing the mechanics of a Go Fund Me page than his cancer diagnosis. Alan is taking this leap because he recognizes it is more important to focus his energy on fighting and healing than to stress and worry about expenses and bills.

Let's all join forces for Alan and return the kindness, mentorship, dedication, love and selflessness he has shown so many of us over the years by making a donation towards his road to healing.
Every contribution will help cover medical costs, travel, and lost income, allowing Alan and Renée to focus on his recovery. Your support means the world to them and honors the impact Alan has had on our lives.

Update: 7/10/2025
Alan wants to express his gratitude and thanks to everyone who has donated or shared his story. He is still receiving immunotherapy and a trial drug shot every few weeks and going to physical therapy to help keep his muscles strong. He and Renée have had a few set backs including their main vehicle breaking down on the way to Boston and needing thousands of dollars in repairs. Their is no amount too small! They are so appreciative of all the love and support that they have received but this is just the beginning. Please keep spreading the love and the link. God Bless.

Update: 8/6/25
Emily, Oly, and I would like to thank each and every person that has donated, shared, or reached out in support of Alan and his family. It has truly helped ease the financial burden that has come with this battle. Every dollar donated has gone directly to medical bills from his treatments and scans. Alan has requested that the campaign finish at the end of August. He truly appreciates all the prayers and support. Keep em' coming.
