Support Al Schwartz & Family in This Time of Need
Donation protected
Al was born with PCKD, basically where cysts form and destroy the kidneys. causing the need for painful dialysis, transplant, or worse (google PCKD to learn more). For many years, Al was fortunate enough not to have any severe complications, due to his condition. In the last 6 months Al's blood work showed signs that his PCKD was advancing. It was at that time the Doctor told him he needed to be placed on a kidney transplant list. They were informed that it would likely take 1-3 years before Al would reach the top of the list.
On September 8, 2021 "a family lost their teenage boy and our family gained a new lease on life with a young, perfect kidney to fix daddy's broken ones. Organ donation truly is a selfless, honorable act that saves lives and keeps a part of those lost alive. Makes me sad, but also happy. Hard to explain" This is the post that Al's wife, Stacy, made on September 9, 2021 shortly after his very successful kidney transplant surgery.
Al‘s recovery started out amazing. However on the morning of September 18, his wife found him in bed with stroke-like symptoms. She called 911 right away and he was taken to Jameson, by ambulance. Upon arrival, Doctors quickly found several brain bleeds and he was immediately flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh for emergency surgery.
Doctors can not confirm at this time what caused the bleeding or what his prognosis will look like. Al was originally scheduled to be off work for 3 months after surgery due to recovery time and a compromised immune system, but at this point, the future is uncertain. The road to recovery will be a long one, but support from family and friends has been immeasurable.
For those of you that know Stacy, she is always going above and beyond for her friends and family. She would do anything for anyone. This is our chance to be there for her, Dylan, Zach, and Al during this trying time. The family is incurring medical expenses along with Stacy's traveling expenses, as she needs to be in Pittsburgh for Al but also home with her boys.
We are hoping that with your kind and generous donations we'll be able to help put the financial stress the family is feeling, in the back of their minds. Hopefully this will allow them to focus on what is truly important, Al's healing and family. We understand these are trying times for everyone, so any donation, thought or prayer will be greatly appreciated.
