On Saturday evening, July 22nd, AJ went golfing with his cousin Nick. Later that night, while at home with Luca, Vanessa received a call that shattered their world—AJ had been taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa following a devastating golfing accident.

While driving the golf cart, AJ and Nick went down a 15-foot ravine, and the golf cart ultimately landed on top of AJ and crushed him. He was initially unresponsive, but once he regained consciousness, Nick, heroically managed to free AJ from under the cart that was crushing him. Due to the remote location, it took some time for firefighters to reach them. Both AJ and Nick were then transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, while Nick (thank god) was later stable, AJ was later transferred to Kaiser in Vacaville, where a trauma team of specialists are now working tirelessly with him. AJ sustained multiple severe injuries, including head trauma, significant spinal injuries that required surgery and damage to his foot which required reconstructive foot surgery. Another spinal surgery is already pending.

This harrowing incident was a close call, but we are so grateful for Nick being there, because of this act of heroism, AJ is still with us. Luca still has his dad, and Vanessa, as she tearfully says, still has her better half.

Given the severity of AJ's injuries and recovery time, they are facing overwhelming medical bills.
