Emergency Eviction — Help a Queer & Trans Family Rebuild

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Ajay.

I’m a trans masculine, single Indo-Caribbean parent to a brilliant and joyful 5-year-old named Ravi. We are currently homeless after being unlawfully evicted from our apartment with less than 24 hours’ notice.

Our former landlord had been renting us an illegal apartment for over three years — a space that was unsafe and never up to code. A city inspector confirmed that the unit should never have been occupied. Yet the landlord knowingly collected rent from us all those years, and now that we’ve been forced out, he’s refusing to return or reimburse any of that money. That money could help us find a new home, but instead we’re left with nothing.

To make matters worse, we were harassed regularly in the building. A neighbor repeatedly targeted me, my child, and my trans sibling — going as far as to make false reports to the police, including fabricated claims that I abused his dog, in an attempt to get me arrested and removed from the property. These were terrifying experiences that put our safety at risk and deeply traumatized my son.

Management ignored what was happening. When we were evicted, there was no concern for Ravi’s well-being — just a cold, abrupt demand to leave.

I also want to share that I have very limited family support. As someone who is trans, I don’t have the kind of family safety net that many others do. My immediate family does not affirm my identity, and I have had to survive by building my own support system — something that has taken years, and that I am still holding together while parenting through crisis.

That’s why I’m here, humbly and urgently, asking for help.

This is not easy for me. I’ve always done my best to take care of my son and survive quietly, but right now, I can’t do this alone. I am asking for your support — from the bottom of my heart — so that Ravi and I can have a stable place to live, rest, recover, and begin rebuilding our lives.

We are in urgent need of financial help to cover:

Moving expenses

Storage for our belongings

First month’s rent and a security deposit for new housing

Basic daily needs like food, transit, and clothing

Legal help to hold the landlord accountable and protect our rights

Please help us. Your donation — no matter how big or small — will go directly toward getting us into safe, stable housing. It will help me keep my child safe. It will give us a chance to heal from what we’ve been through.

Even if you can’t give right now, please share this fundraiser with your friends, coworkers, and communities. Every act of support — every share, every dollar — matters more than I can explain.

I’m just one person, a parent trying to protect my kid and find some peace. But with your help, I know we can make it through this.

Thank you so much for reading, for caring, and for standing with us.

With deep gratitude,
Ajay Ravi Kamal
